Tip eighteen tiny mushrooms onto a patch of felt, a nature tray, or a scattering of bark and moss, and a three-year-old's forest floor appears almost instantly — tall slender toadstools beside rounded stubby caps, each one waiting to become whatever the story needs next.
The Mushroom Grove is an 18-piece set of hand-painted wooden mushrooms from Grapat, the small family-run workshop nestled in the Pyrenean mountains of Catalonia, Spain. Pieces range from 12 mm to 45 mm tall, so little hands can line them up by height, sort them by shape, or press them gently into a mandala arrangement on a seasonal display. They slip naturally into small world play — a fairy village, a woodland adventure, a creature's secret hideaway — and they're just as quietly satisfying gathered into a bowl on a nature table. Made from sustainable wood and finished with water-based non-toxic dyes that let the natural grain show through, the Mushroom Grove is the kind of loose parts set that rewards slow, unhurried play. Grapat's guiding idea is simple: no instructions, no right way. For fine motor skills, early sorting, and imaginative storytelling, that open invitation is exactly the point — and it pairs beautifully with other Grapat loose parts as a collection grows.
At BeoVERDE, we love that a set this small — eighteen pieces, a handful of shapes — can hold a child's attention across so many different kinds of play, and look quietly beautiful doing it.

►The Grapat Story: Catalonia based Joguines Grapat was founded by husband and wife team Casiana & Jordi Grapat who were inspired by watching their young daughter play freely with very few, simple toys that she had at her disposal. They realised that when children are given freedom to imagine, they will enter a world of their own creation. Inspired by this experience with their daughter, they started to create wooden toys such as the Nins® (Catalan for 'children'), a beautiful range of traditional Waldorf toy peg dolls, that allow children to play freely without rules or structure, unhindered by pre-determined ideas or games.
►Warning: SMALL PARTS - CHOKING HAZARD. Not suitable for children under 3 years. Keep this information for future reference.
