Whaly the whale is a patient creature. Roll the dice, pick a fish of that colour and balance it on her back, then on the fish already there. Sixteen fish in, and she is carrying a wobbling tower of them.
The dice keeps it fair between a four-year-old and a parent, and the rounds are short enough to play three in a row. The pieces are wood, drawn by Ingela P. Arrhenius, and the set is slim enough to come away for the weekend.
Balancing games build a steady hand and concentration, with colour matching thrown in, and a tumble of fish is a cheerful way to lose. For one player or the whole family.
