Three fairy shapeshifter witches are the guardians of the Creedon Stone, the source of all magic, which runs all the way from the middle of the forest to the centre of mother earth. The witches' changeling powers allow the eldest sister, Scrawb, to fight as a crow; the middle sister, Hackle, a wolf; and the youngest, Deerheart, a speckled red doe. When humans come to steal the magic for their own ends, young Deerheart must step up and discover the power within her.

“Deerheart is a masterclass in modern mythmaking... Both reluctant readers and fantasy fans will be spellbound from the first page. This tale highlights that we are deeply connected to, and only temporary guardians of, the world around us, just like Deerheart and her sisters. Deerheart shows us that the most powerful magic of all is the courage to listen to the truth we find within our hearts. ” — Michelle Dunne
“The magic of Eoin Colfer’s story telling draws you in from the opening pages and keeps you reading, totally enchanted right through to the final words, such is its power. Equally powerful are P. J. Lynch’s rather eerie charcoal black and white illustrations. ” — Jill R Bennett
“Throughout the book, P. J. Lynch’s stunning artwork has a dreamlike quality to it, that complements the text perfectly and with the inclusion of some gorgeous double-page spreads allows the reader to picture everything within the narrative wonderfully well. Ideal for readers in Year 4 as a solo treat or as a shared read for those a little younger, at less than 200 pages this will have a broader appeal than many titles aimed at the middle grade audience and its hardback format makes this stand out from much of what is currently available and underlines just what an incredible book it is. I very much enjoyed it and am hoping that we will see more from this partnership in the future. ” — Mrs Sydney's Famous World's Smallest Library
