Noah has a problem: twelve animals, one ark, and a sea that rocks the hull. Players take turns to place an animal on the boat without tipping the lot into the water. The last steady hand wins.
The animals, drawn by Ingela P. Arrhenius, are chunky enough for small hands and good company outside the game too, lined up on a shelf or marched two by two across the rug. The rules take a minute to explain, which makes it an easy one for grandparents.
Balancing games teach patience, a careful touch and a little physics, with a satisfying crash when it all goes wrong. Short rounds suit four-year-olds, and adults are not guaranteed to win.
