Fans of the classic Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury story can bring the adventure to the kitchen table with this bright race-and-chase family game for ages 3 years and up. The aim is simple: be the first to get your character back home without being caught by the bear. Each player rolls the dice and follows the arrows across the beautifully illustrated board, splashing through rivers and squelching through mud just like in the book. Land on an “Uh-uh!” space and you’ll draw a card – a red “We can’t go over it” card ends your turn, while a green “Oh no! We’ve got to go through it” lets you roll again and dash further along the trail. When you reach the “Run” space, the pace really picks up: you’ll roll two dice to sprint your character towards home, then one die to move the bear as it thunders after you. With a sturdy board, 5 play pieces, 2 dice and 21 cards in the box, everything’s designed for small hands and quick set-up, so you can squeeze in a game before bedtime or after school. At BeoVERDE, we also stock the much-loved picture book We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and the We’re Going on a Bear Hunt 4-in-1 Puzzle, so you can build a whole little story world across your bookshelf, toy shelf and games cupboard. As they play, children are practising turn-taking, counting, simple strategy and social skills, all wrapped up in a familiar story world they already love. For 2–4 players, it’s an ideal first board game that grows with your child, offering just the right mix of excitement and comfort – a brilliant pick for siblings, playdates or a cosy family games night.

►The University Games Story
University Games started back in 1985, when founders Bob Moog and Cris Lehman set out to create games that brought people together around the table, with learning woven naturally into the fun. Based in San Francisco and now played in homes all over the world, they make an amazing range of children’s and family games and puzzles – from preschool learning games to big kid favourites inspired by much-loved books and characters. Parents, carers and teachers value University Games for mixing laughter with skill-building, so every play session feels time well spent.
